Commissioning Fine Art

1. Commission Pricing Policy:

  • Commission pricing is based size, materials, complexity and budget. A specific project estimate will be provided after our initial discussion, once the scope and creative direction are clarified.

  • We use a sliding-scale pricing approach to offer flexibility, ensuring that commissioned pieces can accommodate a variety of budgets and project scopes. $1800 USD Minimum.

2. The Process

  • Initial Discussion: We’ll begin with a phone call or email exchange to discuss size, materials, concept, timeline, and budget.

  • Proposal Fee: A $1800 USD non-refundable fee is required to proceed with a formal estimate and commission proposal. This fee covers consultation and concept development and is credited toward to the total commission price.

  • Agreement & Down Payment: Once terms are agreed upon, if the commission price is in excess of the $1800 Proposal Fee a 50% non-refundable deposit is due to begin the artwork.

  • Final Payment: The remaining balance is due within 7 days of delivery and approval of the final piece.

  • Typical timeline: 8–12 weeks from start to delivery. Expedited options may be available.

3. Creative Approach

  • Collaboration: Commissions are a collaborative process—but always grounded in Jacques’ artistic vision. This exchange often leads to discovery and creative evolution.

  • Scope & Style: We only accepts commissions aligned with Jacques’ artistic style. Requests for subjects outside the scope of Jacques’ canon, such as realistic portraits will not be considered. Generally commissions are expansions on existing themes or previous works.

4. Payment Terms Summary

  • $1800 proposal fee (non-refundable; applied to final total if project proceeds).

  • If commission price is in excess of $1800 USD - 50% deposit to begin the work (non-refundable).

  • Final balance due within 7 days of delivery and approval.

  • Any change orders may result in additional charges.

5. Returns & Revisions

Each piece is original and handmade; returns are rare.

  • Returns: Possible on a case-by-case basis; if approved, the final payment is voided.

  • Change Orders: Must be mutually agreed upon in writing and may result in additional charges.

  • Shipping: Return shipping is the client’s responsibility.

MWJ Studio offers the opportunity to commission a mural.
Each mural commission is approached similarly to a painting commission, with additional considerations based on the environment and scope of the project.

Commissioning a Mural

1. The Process

  • Initial Consultation: Begins with a phone or email discussion to outline the space, concept, budget, and timeline.

  • Proposal Development: A 10% down payment of the estimated total cost is required to initiate design mock-ups and renderings.

2. Pricing Estimate

Final mural pricing depends on:

  • Square footage.

  • Complexity (colors, details, design intricacy).

  • Environmental logistics (scaffolding, lifts, surfaces, conditions).

You’ll receive a clear, personalized estimate before moving forward.

3. Creative Approach

As with fine art commissions, murals must align with Jacques’ artistic style and direction.

  • Collaborative, but focused: The creative process is a partnership, but the final work will remain consistent with Jacques’ established artistic style.

4. Payment Terms

  • 10% down to begin design and renderings.

  • 50% payment due to begin the mural.

  • Final payment due within 14 days of completion and approval.

  • Change orders must be authorized in writing and may impact final cost.
